Thinking about starting a business in Pleasants County?
Maybe you've thought about opening a coffee shop, or invented a new product you think could be manufactured locally. Before we sit down for our first meeting, take some time to ask yourself the following questions:
-
Is there a demand for the type of business you’re considering?
-
How will your business operate? What supplies or materials will you need? How much capital will it take to get started?
-
Who is your ideal customer or target market?
-
Do you plan to run your business from home, online, or in a physical storefront?
-
Is there a market for your business in Pleasants County?
That’s what we’re here to help you figure out. During our initial conversation, we’ll talk through your idea and explore whether there’s a local market for it. We can also connect you with trusted partners who can help conduct a market study, so you can move forward with confidence, knowing that Pleasants County is the right place for your business to grow and thrive.-
Before approaching investors or lenders, create a strong business plan. It’s often required for financing and helps map out your goals and 3–5 year growth strategy.
Need a template? SCORE.org offers free, industry-specific plans you can customize.
Prefer hands-on help? The WV Small Business Development Center at WVU Parkersburg offers one-on-one coaching, business consultations, and training.
Already have a plan? Decide on your legal structure (many choose an LLC) with guidance from a legal professional, then apply for your EIN and register with the West Virginia Secretary of State.
After you’ve completed your business plan and have filed for a business license, it’s time to start thinking about how you will fund your new business. Capital access can be one of the more challenging processes when an entrepreneur starts a new business or is even in the process of growing one.
